I've been in a similar situation - slightly different details; my son is older, has Crohns not UC. He almost died, and then went through the whole bag thing for a while (although it was temporary) but we had to learn how to live with it. (I had a different blog back then, frankiesguts.blogspot.com.)

Anyway, what I wanted to tell you about from our experience is this: Do everything you can to focus on any positive aspect that you can find, and avoid thinking about the negative things as much as you can. It might sound silly, but your state of mind is the most important thing of all.

It is hard to see the good in any of these negative experiences. Frankie thought he had "bad luck." But some good things came out of it - he met his hero, felt love and support from people he didn't even know, even got gifts from them, and learned a lot from wonderful doctors & nurses - Looking back, he says that as hard as it was to go through it made him into the person he is today. He says he has "extreme" luck. Sometimes bad, but sometimes really really good. He is happy, strong and sensible, because of what he went through.

I really believe in the power of prayer, so I'll be praying for your little Alexis, just like so many people prayed for my Frankie. Don't forget to take care of yourself and your husband sometimes, and enjoy Alexis and her little sister as much as you can while they are little. And stay positive.

Sincerely,
Sue Kemper
(Frankie's mom)The Iselin Timeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16957839204998683239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2472071696874163649.post-65074753407874450752012-07-19T12:35:02.878-04:002012-07-19T12:35:02.878-04:00dear mom, you know those tight tank tops made of s...dear mom, you know those tight tank tops made of spandex? like spanx tank tops? or the ones you get at wet seal (in the states) try buying a small one and cut it in half to make a belly band. i'm a supposed grown up and those worked great for me, a teeny small one will hopefully get you two belly bands for your munchkin:) have you seen the lets talk ibd channel on youtube? there is a beautiful young lady, know in college named maggie who wears her ostomy with a bikini! and decorates the bags with stickers and duct tape. i suggest you look through the vids and watch some with your daughter. she might feel much better seeing a pretty young lady with a bag. love and good health to your family, amy-jo(aka leo jones on facebook)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2472071696874163649.post-26557549016222998432012-07-19T12:19:37.368-04:002012-07-19T12:19:37.368-04:00Tara, I'd be willing to bet that there are som...Tara, I'd be willing to bet that there are some companies out there, such as Ostomy Secrets, etc., who'd be willing to make Alexis some cute wraps. I'm happy to help you contact them, if you'd like. Please tell Alexis that she has thousands of people rooting for her - she's our little hero :) ~Charis~Charis Kirkhttp://www.fullfrontalostomy.comnoreply@blogger.com
